Community Outreach

One of the missions of the Skywide Amateur radio club is to educate and provide communication services to our community. We support diversity and inclusion and cater to all ages and backgrounds. This page showcases some examples.

We invite you to contact us should your event benefit from wide area coverage communication services or to showcase amateur radio and its reach across the globe ! 

The Sashbear Foundation is a charity recognized as a leading voice for Canadian families impacted by emotion dysregulation, suicidality, and related mental health challenges.This annual walk is the largest event of its kind in Canada for emotion dysregulation and borderline personality disorder. People come together to raise awareness, reduce stigma, and make waves for mental health—a journey to provide hope of a life worth living, for all. This will be the 4th year Skywide has been involved

 Boy Scouts. Insert description and dates. On Jamboree On The Air (JOTA) we contact scouts on the air and have special events such as fox hunts and field days where scouts are invited to join our team to see us operate and try their hand making on air contacts within our region and sometimes well beyond !  

Girl Guides  Not only do Scouts get our attention.  As an inclusive club we have also offered special sessions for locat Girl Guide groups.  In the illustrated event (and shown in the header image) the girls got to build their own keyer and learn some morse code !

Astronomy Night.   Held is a local W Toronto park once or twice a year.  Club members and members of the public are welcome to join us to see the moon, planets and stellar objects.  Weather permiting.  Short notice only. See our Astronomy Nights web page (under Club Corner) for more pictures.

Parades, Charity Walks and Rides. Recently at the Warriors Day at the CNE operators from out club have been on hand to cover the parade route.  In addition to monitoring progress and alerting organizers to any illness or mishap we also provide water bottles or other aids to participants.

Science Fairs, Schools, and Festivals.  The club can set up our tent and demonstrate various aspect of amateur radio.  This includes not only explaining various mode and listening to contacts being made but also the opportunity to try talking on the radio !
