Presentation: Ham Radio for the Visually Impaired

For individuals who are totally blind, amateur radio presents some challenges. Club member Jason VE3JKF will discuss how he operates and the things he has done to work around inaccessible hardware and software.
This includes:

Finding HF radios with limited speech output.
Finding various HTs with speech output, sometimes relying on third party firmware
Accessible software for FT8 / FT4.
Demonstrating an app he has built to provide audible indication of SWR

Location: Etobicoke Civic Centre, 399 The West Mall, Etobicoke, ON

The nearest intersection is The West Mall and Civic Centre Court.

Occasionally we have to relocate to smaller boardrooms downstairs. 

Please inquire on-site to find our meeting location.

Time: 6:00 pm-9:30 pm. Meeting starts 7:00 PM. All members are asked to do their best to arrive ahead of time in order to not disrupt the meeting. 

Facilities: Ample free parking is available. The main Boardroom utilizes a fixed setup and is located on the main floor. There are 21 round table and 31 gallery seats. The room also hosts a bulletin, chalkboard, screen and data jack.

Amenities: Coffee, tea & water will be provided.

*** Due to security changes, the main doors are locked after 6PM. If the doors are locked you can reach us on 446.200 FM simplex and someone will open the door or join the virtual meeting and let us know you’re outside – we will attempt to have someone at the doors to let people in until 7PM ***

 

For those who cannot attend in-person, the meeting will also be available via Google Meets starting at approximately 6:45 PM.
