HF Nets

Skywide Club HF Nets:

 

40 m Net: 
Currently on 7100 kHz Wednesdays @ 7:30 PM local time, conditions permitting. Club members should check Groups.io for updates.  The Ionogram and Fof2 maps below can be useful to determine if local and regional contacts can be made.
 
80 m Net :
Current only being held after the 40 m Net on 3773 kHz, time and numbers permitting.

 Solar Conditions affecting HF:

 Latest Ionogram (closest to S. Ont):

* An Ionogram shows the height of the ionosphere (km) versus the frequency of radio waves (Mhz) reflected from it. Check at your operating frequency. Low level (~300 km) solid horiz lines mean good  reflection for regional and local reception (known as NVIS = Near Vertical Incidence Skywave). Fainter lines above that are just multiple bounces. Vertical lines at the frequency you want to use and blank areas mean ‘no joy’. 

 Max Frequency for Reflection from F band – fof2:

This map is another way of showing the highest frequency that you can use for NVIS (skywave communication “in your own backyard”). When foF2 in our region is 7MHz or more, 40 meters “goes short” and can be used for local contacts on our HF net. Far-away ones can still be reachable.
