How it works

You can borrow one of our antennas, bring your own, or try a handheld with a rubber duck. Radio foxes stay inside the park. Two parking lots sit west of the gazebo.

What is a fox hunt?

Your furry friends are safe. When amateur radio operators go fox hunting, they are looking for a hidden low-power transmitter, a bit like a geocache. Teams head out and see who can find it.

Hunts can be simple or elaborate. Foxes can sit still, share a frequency to confuse hunters, or even move on a vehicle or bicycle.

Why fox hunt?

It is a fun way to get members outdoors together. Keep it casual or make it a contest. The same skills help find sources of radio interference, and they show how signals bounce and fade in different places.
