Winter Field Day 2024

Winter Field Day 2024

Recap

On January 25th, 2025, the Skywide Amateur Radio Club participated in Winter Field Day at Centennial Park, setting up camp just north of the Conservatory off Elmcrest Road.

Operating as a **4O entry** (four outdoor stations in tents), club members made contacts on HF, VHF, and UHF bands from 9 AM until dusk. Phil Parker (VA3GFX) and Tom Stefanac (VA3VWX) each brought two HF radios, powered by a combination of 100AH and 40AH batteries. The team ran multiple vertical antennas and a VHF/UHF simplex station, with 446.200 MHz crossbanded to the VE3SKY repeater for local coordination and talk-in.

All contacts were logged using N3FJP Winter Field Day software across three networked computers.

Despite the cold and snow, heated tents kept operators comfortable—proving once again that there’s no such thing as bad weather, only challenging operating conditions!

Thanks to everyone who came out, operated, and helped make it a success.
